Winterization
Get your equipment ready for storage
Failure to properly winterize equipment is the number one reason equipment is brought in for repair. Gasoline goes bad and damages carburetors. Winterization is a process where either all fuel is removed or replaced with a special fuel to prevent dammage to the carburetor and fuel system durring storage. This damage starts in as little as 30 days. Fuel older than 30 days should not be used in equipment or dammage can occur.
At Modern Mower, we offer winterization as a free service when you get a maintenance or tune up package done on your equipment. Free winterization is only available in November for summer equipment, and in March for winter equipment. (there is additional cost for transportation if needed.) if you miss these free windows, you can still bring it in - it will save you needing to do a full tune up next year.
If you dont care to bring it back in, theres still something you can do to prevent dammage. Just running the equipment out of gas will not work in most cases. To winterize a unit at home, the best method is to use a product called TruFuel, which is a super pure gasoline that takes over a full year to go bad in the tank.

Using TruFuel
Using TruFuel is simple. you just run the equipment until it completely runs out of gas, and then add an entire small can of TruFuel to smaller units, and the large 3qt. can to riders and larger equipment. Then run the equipment 3-5 min to get the TruFuel into the system and your done untill next year. Next Year, all you do is use the unit as normal - you do not need to remove the TruFuel, it burns just like ordinary gasoline.
